Kit Review
Documentation: 12 page booklet including general description, construction procedure, setup instructions,
schematics, parts identification chart, pcb layout, troubleshooting hints, antenna ideas and enclosure tips.
Quality of Components: Good quality epoxy board with sliver traces and good
silk-screen printed part locations. The parts were all of good quality and easy to identify.
No socket is provided for the ba1014 chip.
Quality of Design: Fair BA1014 design with buffer stage for 6-10 MW.
There are many mods and improvements that can be made on this unit, search google for more info.
Ease of Assembly: Read all the documents before you start! Parts
placement is easy with the documents provided clearly showing you what goes where.
This is a kit for beginners.
Setup and Use: Alignment was easy using a stereo receiver for testing.
The power output was 10 MW or so. The stereo separation was fair and the sound
quality was fair. Some hiss and noise were present in the signal. The frequency
drifted less then 20 khz in 4 hours of operation after a 1 hour warm up.
Support from Vendor: Ramsey has great support via email, so I am told. I made
no contact with them.
Cost: I purchased the kit at HSC in San Jose for $45 (dec 2001). The case was extra.
